Ethical Investment Statement

Terra Capital Management is a member of the Responsible Investment Association Australasia (RIAA). RIAA is the peak industry body representing responsible and ethical investors across Australia and New Zealand. Terra Capital Management retains an Ethical Investing Statement which can be requested by contacting the Fund (details below).

Terra Capital Ethical Emerging Companies Fund is an RIAA certified ethical fund and uses a negative screen to exclude companies that have direct or material involvement in activities set out below. Involvement is defined as revenue generating or equivalent value to the business (for businesses in ‘pre-revenue’ development). However, our screening can also include other business activities or behaviours, which are deemed non-ethical by Terra Capital, e.g. we won’t apply a revenue check on issues such as human rights violations or environmental destruction, but judge these events on a case by case basis.

Damaging to society:

– Weapons or specialised weapon components of weapons for military uses capable of indiscriminate or mass killings (this includes all companies who may be involved in the production, sale, marketing and supply of the finished product or manufacturing process), this is not limited to, but includes Controversial Weapons such as nuclear, biological, chemical, and other weapons of indiscriminate nature.

– Tobacco (this includes all companies who may be involved in the production and supply of the finished product or manufacturing process).

– Gambling (this includes all companies who may be involved in the production, sale and supply of the finished product or manufacturing process).

Misuse of technology platforms:

– Involvement in pornography or distribution of pornography.

– Use of software or hardware to exploit security and privacy.

– Unauthorised use of customers’ personal data for profit.

Human rights violations:

– Child labour or forced labour

– Other human rights violation behaviours – were allegations of violations come to light and there is not sufficient action to remedy those impacted

Cruelty to Animals:

– Cruel and intensive animal farming (land and water)

– Animal testing for cosmetics (note excludes animal testing for medical purposes in a controlled environment and under ethical processes)

Environmental destruction:

– Premeditated activities that have been identified to unnecessarily contribute to environmental pollution, climate change, water and other resource scarcity – where either typical business activities (direct or through the use or disposal of products) are known to have seriously damaging impacts, or where premediated actions in business behaviour are the cause.
